The Check Fund

A check costs a 6-person shop as much as a week of a machinist’s wages. Featured fees exist to fix that. Every dollar a larger plant pays for placement is set aside and pays for checks at plants with fewer than 20 staff, first come, first served, no application beyond the check itself.

The fund balance and the number of checks it has paid for are published on the impact page and updated monthly.

Six promises

  1. Search is free. Always.

    Nobody pays to look, and nobody ever will. No login wall on any plant, record or category page.

  2. Listing is free. Forever.

    Every Canadian plant, shop and mill gets a profile with photos and requests for quote at no cost. This is written into our terms, not a launch offer.

  3. Checked cannot be bought.

    The red mark only appears after a passed review of cost documents. No fee, sponsorship or partnership changes the outcome.

  4. Featured fees fund free checks.

    Every dollar from Featured placement goes into the Check Fund, which pays for checks at plants with fewer than 20 staff. We publish the count.

  5. 20% of revenue goes back. You pick where.

    Every month 20% of everything we bill, never less than $500, goes to a Canadian cause nominated and voted on by the community on this site. Receipts are published every month.

  6. We never touch the money.

    No commission, no escrow, no invoicing between buyers and plants. Your deal is your deal.

Only a passed review puts the red mark on a profile.

SponsoredSponsored means paid, and paid forward

A grey label on a capped position. It never sorts above a checked plant, and the fee pays for a small shop’s check.

Data licences sell aggregates only

Reports on Canadian capacity by category and region, never an individual plant’s details or documents.

Questions about pricing

What if my check does not pass?
You get a specific reason and can resubmit within the year at no extra charge once you have the documents or the numbers to meet the threshold. If we decline to start a review, the fee is refunded in full.
Why is the check priced by company size?
Larger plants have more inputs to review and more at stake in the claim. Small shops should not pay for that, and under 20 staff the Check Fund often covers it entirely.
How do I get a free check from the Check Fund?
Apply as normal. If your plant has fewer than 20 staff and the fund has a balance, the fee is waived at checkout. No separate application.
Can I be featured and checked?
Yes. The card shows both, as separate labels. Featured changes where you appear; checked changes what people can trust.
Where does the 20% go?
Wherever the community votes, every month: a town, a school, a shop, a person helped through a local charity. Nominate and vote on the Giveback page. Every payment is receipted there within a week.
Is there a discount for association members?
Not yet. Association and partner portals are planned for later.
