1. What this section of the site is
The products page lists consumer products made by other companies. We do not make them, sell them, stock them or ship them. When you click "Buy at" you leave our site and go to the brand's own store or to a retailer. Any purchase is between you and them, under their terms, prices and return policy. We never see your payment details.
2. We may earn a commission
Some of the links on the products page are affiliate links. If you click one and then buy something, the brand or an affiliate network may pay us a small commission. It does not change the price you pay.
We tell you which links are affiliate links in two places: a line on each product page above the buy button, and a short "Affiliate link" tag on the product card. A listing without that tag links straight to the brand, and we earn nothing from it.
Commission income is treated like any other revenue on the site: 20% of gross revenue goes into the monthly Giveback (see the Giveback page).
3. Commissions never buy the red mark
The red Checked mark appears only after our documented review of a product line's cost records, as described in the Scope of review. Whether a brand pays us a commission, how much it pays, or whether it pays at all, has no effect on:
- whether a product is reviewed;
- the outcome of that review;
- whether the mark is shown, kept or withdrawn;
- where the product appears in search results or lists.
A brand-listed product does not carry the red mark unless it has also passed a review, and then it is shown with the review record like any other checked product line.
4. How the "made in Canada" statement is labelled
Products in this section are listed because the brand states, on its own website, that the product is made in Canada. We record the exact wording the brand uses and a link to the page where it says so. On the site this appears as:
Brand states: Made in Canada (link to the brand's page)
or, in French,
Selon la marque : Fabriqué au Canada
That statement is the brand's, not ours. Unless a product is marked as checked, we have not verified it and we make no representation about it. The brand remains responsible for its own origin claims under the Competition Act, the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and the Textile Labelling Act, as applicable.
If we learn that a brand's statement is inaccurate, or the brand changes it, we remove or correct the listing.
5. Prices and images
Prices are copied from the brand's site on the date shown next to the price ("price seen on") and may have changed. The brand's current price is the one that applies.
We show a product image only where we have permission to: either the image came through an affiliate feed whose terms allow display, or the brand gave us written permission. Otherwise the listing shows a plain placeholder tile. We do not copy images from brand websites.
6. Getting a product removed or corrected
Any brand can have a product removed from this section, or its details corrected, at no cost and without giving a reason. Email listings@checkedcanadian.ca with the product page link. We act within five business days and confirm by email.
